I’m Hannah Parker, a property specialist based in San Pedro de Alcántara and part of the Century 21 Blue team. I work primarily with buyers and sellers in Marbella, San Pedro de Alcántara, El Pariso, Benahavis and the surrounding Costa del Sol, with a strong focus on helping international clients understand the Spanish property market clearly and confidently.

The short answer is yes — it is safe to buy property in Marbella as a foreigner — but only if the process is handled correctly and professionally.

Spain has a well-established legal framework for property ownership, and foreigners have the same ownership rights as Spanish nationals. Problems tend to arise not because of the country or the market, but because buyers move too quickly or rely on incomplete advice.

In my experience working with clients through Century 21 Blue, the most important protections come from three things: using an independent lawyer, fully understanding the total purchase costs, and verifying the legal status of the property before any commitment is made.

Marbella attracts international buyers precisely because it has a mature market, strong infrastructure, and long-term demand. When the right checks are in place, buying property here is no more risky than in other established European markets — and in many cases, it is more transparent.

This is why I always encourage buyers to ask questions early, slow the process down where needed, and make decisions based on facts rather than emotion.
